I love pom poms. My first memory of anything close to a pom pom was a Weepul. That was in Kindergarten and my teacher Mrs. Allemand had this little model schoolhouse that housed little Weepuls. If you were a star student, you would get to get a Weepul! I collected so many! Kindergarten was the life.
That being said, I’m not so much interested in Weepuls now, but pom poms are a fun and similar way to remember them! Something about colorful fluffy puffs make me so happy. I just want to grab an armful and squish them!

Lately, I’ve been into african prints. I taught a unit on customs and cultures earlier this year. I chose to teach about West African and for one of the art extensions, we used items to create amazing patterns on fabric and paper! Ever since that, I’ve been oogling over the colors and patterns of african prints and african inspired prints!
One. Two. Three.
I’m back! I’m finally over my illness and back in the Bay Area. I had the most amazingly relaxing 5 day weekend down in Southern California. I went down for a wedding, but spent a few days, hoping to be a beach bum, which never happened due to cloudy weather!
I didn’t bring much clothes at all on this trip, but with 5 days.. you really don’t need much at all! This capsule would actually take me through 8 days. That’s 1 sweater, 2 pairs of pants, 4 tops, and 2 pairs of shoes. If you haven’t noticed, I keep things simple and neutral with pops of color. These pants are my all stars for all year round.
I bought my funnel neck zip sweater (similar sweater in the picture) at Old Navy 4 years ago! I’m still wearing it and it’s starting to break apart! I’m going to have to sew myself a replica or find a replacement soon. The glory of a capsule is that you are able to wear your items for YEARS. I wish that there was a better quality in the same style that would last even longer than ON quality… if only!
The white jeans were a purchase also from 4 years ago (what! I keep them white by washing WITHOUT fabric softener and with a few tablespoons of vinegar with the detergent instead). The coral pants were a purchase from a trip to Hong Kong last March.
The newest pick for my spring/summer capsule that I (embarrassingly) keep wearing days in a row is the striped woven top! It’s like linen/chambray and incredibly soft. It works with anything and everything, which is probably why I keep wearing it. (Don’t judge me.)
I have my rose gold bar necklace I bought from Etsy that I wear daily for jewelry, but threw in 2 pairs of shoes for variety. Silver glittered and striped.
Replicating this capsule is easy, really. Stick with the neutrals. Pick one color and have a top and pants in that color. Add stripes or polka dots for pattern. Lace would be nice for texture if you want to mix it up too! See how easy it is to build a capsule when you have neutrals/basics?!
I used a new nib today and it was not my favorite. It kept getting caught on the paper fibers, resulting in very wobbly lines. I might have to only use it on super smooth papers.
Just letting you know I’m taking a tiny break on this blog. There might be some posts but no pressure on myself.
I’m wrapping up the school year and swamped with assessments and report cards. On top if that, I’ve been hit with a sinus infection since last Tuesday that I’m still trying to get over. Post nasal drip is my current enemy as it keeps me up late at night and gives me restless nights. I’m in zombie mode!
I’m going to LA for 5 days so I hope the warm weather and sandy beaches will help me relax and recuperate!
I’m hoping to be back soon enough, friends! 🙂
This post is after the fact, but on a personal note, my mom is traveling so we didn’t get to celebrate it on the day of anyways! That being said, these items are on my list of things to buy my momma for “just because”, birthday, and Christmas presents!
My mom is a practical woman. It’s difficult to buy her presents because she hardly ever wants anything! The best things to get for people who don’t really want anything.. are to buy them functional things that they might not want to fork up money to buy themselves!
Gift 1. My mom uses recycled paper cut into fourths and staples them for her To Do lists, but how cute would this illustrated fox notepad be?!
Gift 2. Recently, I helped my mom throw away some of her old lipsticks (yes, they actually do go bad!). I wanted to get her a bright red lipstick like the ones she tossed, but with SPF coverage! It’s perfect for anytime, but especially important when travelling and also out in the sun!
Gift 3. Baggies for an organized purse. No one needs things flying around all up in your bag. Corral them all in cute bags you don’t mind showing off!
Gift 4. Eye masks are glorious if you have trouble sleeping or have sensitive eyes to light! (I read online that people who like it completely dark when sleeping are more night people, whereas people who like light to shine into their rooms are morning people. Makes sense! I’m the latter! I love mornings! 🙂 )
Gift 5. Flats. I wear them daily when teaching. I don’t care if you have a active job or a desk job.. these flats are professional and comfy enough for whatever, whenever!

Oh, mint. Perfect for soothing winter sniffles, refreshing summer recipes, and decorating and flavoring desserts! Though let’s be honest… I could do with a mint mojito coffee from Philz any day of the week! Here are 2 recipes that I’m going to be making allllllll summer long!

PS. Did you know that mint is considered an invasive plant? Weed alert?! With the amount of mint I’ll be using, maybe I don’t mind!
